POSITION TITLE: FAMILY ADVOCATE
REPORTS TO: Early Head Start Manager
FSLA CLASSIFICATION: Non- Exempt
General Responsibilities
Operate in compliance with any and all of the policies and procedures as established by Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission and Northern Kentucky Head Start and the performance standards as established by the Federal government regarding program operations to promote and provide quality service delivery to the children, families and community of our service area.
Fulfill responsibilities as an early childhood development and health services team member and carry out tasks as outlined in the component plan
Specific Responsibilities
Work cooperatively with all components of the program.
Maintain the confidentiality of staff and clients.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Participate in annual self assessment.
Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
Follow established child abuse reporting requirements.
Work directly with families to ensure their child is getting the proper nutrition, physical exams, immunizations, eye exams, and dental exams.
Work directly with families on the Family Partnership agreements and fulfilling their goals.
Travel to and from Partnership sites to meet families, retrieval of documentation, teacher and parent meetings.
Enter all case notes regarding the families into ChildPlus.
Encourage parent participation in all areas.
Conduct home visits with teaching staff.
Assist in securing in-kind donations to match the required non-federal share amount each program year.
Knowledge and ability to confront family concerns and utilize community resources under supervision.
Responsible for completion and maintaining all necessary files of assigned caseload.
Assist in recruitment and enrollment of children, as outline in program policies.
Advocate for rights of client.
Maintain daily attendance records, contacting by phone or home visit any child whose participation is irregular as outline in program policy. Submit monthly attendance record to supervisor.
Schedule and conduct weekly conference with teachers and other component staff for the purpose of referrals, family situation and follow-up and feedback.
Review parent handbook thoroughly with each family.
Maintain child files with current family information, including referrals, family service plans and activity log. Report change of status promptly to appropriate staff members as outlined in procedures. Upload all file information into the appropriate tab in ChildPlus.
Follow-up and document to assure delivery of needed service has been completed.
Assist in screening all children with parental permission for required medical screenings.
Assist with head lice checks and head lice information to parents.
Assist in fund raising efforts with guidance from the Family and Community Partnerships Manager.
Ensure that assigned classroom as full enrollment.
Attend parent meetings and family engagement activities.
Assist in ensuring federal, state, and local compliance is being met at all sites.
Performance of any other work related task as deemed necessary by direct supervisor
Qualifications
High school diploma/GED
Computer skills.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Valid driver’s license and/or provide transportation to fulfill job responsibilities.
NKCAC-Head Start cannot employ anyone who has been found by the Cabinet to have abused or neglected a child.
Ability to work with people of diverse and varying socioeconomic backgrounds.
Must have the ability to stand/walk/run after young children 100% of the time.
Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs up to 50% of the time
Ability to sit at, read, and enter data on computer for prolonged periods of time up to 75% of the time
