OPO Donor Family Advocate - Palm Beach and North Broward Counties Join to apply for the OPO Donor Family Advocate - Palm Beach and North Broward Counties role at University of Miami The Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency at the University of Miami/UHealth is seeking a full-time OPO Donor Family Advocate. This role involves providing hospital on-site response to advocate for donation and support families through the organ and tissue donation process. The position has a significant impact on consent, engaging families face-to-face to ensure high-quality care and maximize life gifts during sensitive times. The advocate interfaces with hospital staff to assess case progression, supports and educates potential donor's legal next-of-kin regarding donation options, and conducts discussions about donation authorization. The role also involves assisting with hospital development strategies to improve the donation process. Core Job Functions Respond promptly and in person to referral notifications, perform rapid identification and evaluation of potential donors across over 90 hospitals within Dade, Monroe, Broward, Collier, Palm Beach, St. Lucie counties, and the Bahamas. Collaborate with hospital staff, LAORA Resource Triage Coordinator, Administrator-on-Call, and clinical staff to determine optimal timing for donation discussions. Educate potential donor families about donation options, donor designation status, and seek authorization from legal next-of-kin. Conduct Uniform Donor Risk Assessment Interviews (UDRAI) with surrogates of potential donors, working closely with families and clinical staff. Accurately document all donor-related activities in confidential records following policies and procedures. Coordinate with hospital and organizational staff, including participation in meetings and conference calls. Complete Dual Advocacy training and implement techniques; participate in ongoing training to update skills. Maintain confidentiality and collaborate effectively with other roles involved in the donation process. Support hospital development efforts and refer families to Aftercare programs post-donation. Use personal vehicle for job functions, with mileage reimbursement. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field Certification and Licensing: CPTC, RN, CRT, Foreign MD, EMT, or Paramedic credentials preferred Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience Skills and Attitudes: Problem-solving, sound judgment, effective communication, professionalism in stressful situations, interpersonal skills Additional Information The position is full-time, staff level, with a competitive salary and benefits including medical, dental, and tuition remission.
